Abu Dhabi Implements Vehicle Ban on New Year’s Eve for Traffic Safety

During the approaching New Year's Eve celebrations, Abu Dhabi authorities have banned specified vehicles on Abu Dhabi Island.

In a proactive measure to ensure public safety during New Year’s Eve celebrations, Abu Dhabi authorities have announced a ban on specific vehicles within Abu Dhabi Island. The ban targets trucks, heavy vehicles, and buses transporting laborers and will be in effect from 7 am on Sunday, December 31, 2023, until 7 am on Monday, January 1, 2024.

Scope and Exemptions

The ban encompasses key bridges connecting Abu Dhabi Island to the mainland, including Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Sheikh Khalifa Bridge, Mussafah Bridge, and Al Maqtaa Bridge. Vehicles from public cleaning companies and those providing logistical support are exempted from this restriction.

Enforcement and Monitoring

To ensure compliance, traffic patrols will be deployed across all roads, and surveillance will be intensified through smart systems. Authorities urge drivers to adhere strictly to traffic laws to maintain safety and smooth traffic flow during the festivities.

Public Advisory

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, avoid speeding, and refrain from using handheld devices while driving. The public is also reminded to avoid hanging out of car windows or sunroofs and to refrain from using party sprays, as these actions can lead to fines and penalties.

These measures reflect Abu Dhabi’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all residents and visitors during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
