Abrahamic Family House: A Beacon of Unity in Abu Dhabi Celebrates First Anniversary

In its first year, the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi has emerged as a symbol of hope and unity, fostering interfaith dialogue and understanding among diverse communities. Situated on Saadiyat Island, the complex comprises a mosque, a church, and a synagogue, reflecting the shared values of Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.

The executive director of the Abrahamic Family House, Abdulla Al Shehhi, emphasized the significance of the complex in promoting a better future through its inclusive approach. He highlighted the regular gatherings of Muslims, Christians, and Jews, who come together after attending separate worship services, demonstrating harmony and coexistence.

The idea of the Abrahamic Family House originated from the Document on Human Fraternity signed by Pope Francis and Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, during the Pope’s visit to the UAE in 2019. The aim was to translate the principles of tolerance and mutual respect into a physical space where people of different faiths could come together in worship and fellowship.

Since its inauguration, the Abrahamic Family House has welcomed over 100,000 visitors, including worshippers attending services at the mosque, church, and synagogue. The center has also hosted various events and activities to promote interfaith dialogue and cultural exchange.

One notable project involved the creation of a mosaic in the center’s garden, where more than 300 members of the community contributed tiles, symbolizing unity amidst diversity. Additionally, performances by The Little Singers of Paris and an exhibition titled Fraternal Visuals, showcasing Arabic prayers from different faiths through calligraphy, have added to the center’s vibrant atmosphere.

Community leaders from the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths have lauded the Abrahamic Family House for its role in fostering understanding and cooperation. Yahya Saeed Alnaeti, a member of the Jewish community, emphasized the importance of the center in bringing people together, especially during times of regional turmoil.

Rashid Ibrahim Rizgi, representing the mosque, highlighted the center’s significance as a tangible representation of tolerance, demonstrating the power of dialogue and communication in resolving conflicts.

Joao De Souza, a member of the Catholic church, praised the opportunities provided by the Abrahamic Family House for interfaith dialogue and friendship-building, emphasizing the importance of creating a sense of community across religious boundaries.

In conclusion, the Abrahamic Family House stands as a testament to the UAE’s commitment to promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding among people of different faiths. As it marks its first anniversary, the center continues to serve as a beacon of unity, offering hope for a more harmonious and inclusive future for all.
