I never imagined that a fractured rib could reshape the way I think — not just about my health, but about my profession, and even life itself.
It happened suddenly, in a seemingly ordinary moment. A fall, a sharp jolt of pain, and what I thought was a minor incident. I went to the hospital. A quick check, a few reassuring words, and no scans. I was told it was nothing serious.
But pain has a language of its own — and mine kept speaking.
A week later, I listened. Not to doctors, but to my own instincts. A second opinion. A proper examination. X-rays. The truth: two fractured ribs — the fifth and sixth on my left side.
That moment made me pause and think. In real estate, I’ve seen buildings that appear solid on the outside, but when you look beneath the surface, cracks run deep. Sometimes it’s not what you see, but what you don’t inspect closely that causes the greatest damage.
This injury became a metaphor — a quiet lesson:
• Surface assessments mean nothing without depth. Whether it’s a medical diagnosis or a property valuation.
• Every structure, no matter how strong, needs regular care.
• Well-being, like prime real estate, is priceless… and often overlooked until it’s lost.
As I recover, I’ve come to realize that those of us who assess buildings every day must also learn to assess ourselves — to pause, to reflect, and to repair what stress or silence may have fractured within.
