From Playful Beginnings to Culinary Prodigies
In the heart of the UAE, twin Chefs Abdulrahman and Maitha Al Hashmi embarked on a culinary journey that began in their family kitchen. As toddlers, they assisted their father, Dr. Waddah Al Hashmi, in preparing meals, sparking a passion that would soon evolve into a professional pursuit. Their early experiences, from cutting mushrooms with plastic knives to donning mini chef uniforms, laid the foundation for their future in gastronomy.
Breaking Barriers at the International Centre for Culinary Arts

At the age of 13, the twins achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the youngest students to earn a Diploma in Cookery from the International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA) in Dubai. Despite initial skepticism about their age, Abdulrahman and Maitha demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, impressing instructors and peers alike. Their rigorous training encompassed not only cooking techniques but also food hygiene, sustainability, and the economics of the hospitality industry.
Culinary Showcases and Public Engagements
The twins’ talents have been showcased at prominent events, including the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival, where they prepared innovative dishes like Chicken Teriyaki with fried rice and Orzo Al Taybeen, blending Emirati, Italian, and Asian flavors. Their participation in such events highlights their commitment to sharing their culinary creations with a broader audience.
Family Influence and Cultural Heritage
Abdulrahman and Maitha’s culinary journey is deeply rooted in their family’s appreciation for quality food. Their grandmother, a talented cook, and their parents, both engineers with a passion for cooking, have been instrumental in nurturing their interests. The twins are also the grandchildren of renowned Emirati poet and translator Dr. Shihab Ganem, whose artistic legacy inspires their creative endeavors in the kitchen.
Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, Abdulrahman and Maitha aspire to open a Michelin-star chain of restaurants, aiming to introduce Emirati cuisine to a global audience. They also plan to author a cookbook featuring 50 of their signature recipes, offering a blend of traditional and contemporary dishes. Their vision reflects a desire to innovate while honoring their cultural heritage.
Balancing Academics and Culinary Pursuits
Despite their culinary commitments, the twins maintain a strong focus on their academic studies. Abdulrahman, a student at Dubai ATS (Institute of Applied Technology), and Maitha, attending Science Research School in Dubai, exemplify the balance between education and passion. Their disciplined approach to time management underscores their dedication to both personal and professional growth.

Abdulrahman and Maitha’s journey serves as an inspiration to young aspiring chefs, demonstrating that age is no barrier to achieving excellence. Their story encourages others to pursue their passions with determination and resilience, highlighting the importance of family support and cultural appreciation in personal development.
