Professor Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Death of Jewish Man

On Thursday, Loay Alnaji was charged with involuntary manslaughter and violence causing serious bodily injury in the murder of a Jewish man.

A California university professor, Loay Alnaji, 50, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and battery causing serious bodily injury on Thursday for the death of a Jewish man, Paul Kessler, during a pro-Palestinian demonstration.

Altercation and Tragic Outcome:

The incident occurred on November 5 in Thousand Oaks, where a clash unfolded between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli protesters.

Kessler, 69, sustained a fatal head injury after an altercation with Alnaji, eventually succumbing to his injuries the following day in the hospital.

Initial investigations proved challenging as witnesses provided conflicting statements about the nature of the altercation and the identity of the assailant.

This led to Alnaji’s arrest initially, but he was released due to insufficient evidence.

New Developments and Criminal Charges:

Recent developments prompted Alnaji’s re-arrest, with the professor now facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and battery causing serious bodily injury.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office did not disclose the nature of the new evidence.

The incident adds to the rising tensions between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian groups in the United States.

The country has witnessed increased friction over the past five weeks, with incidents such as the stabbing of a six-year-old Muslim boy near Chicago directly linked to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Professor’s Identity and Profession:

Loay Alnaji, identified as a professor of computer science at Ventura Community College, was among those present at the scene who dialed 911 for emergency help after Kessler fell.

Authorities have not disclosed the specifics of the new evidence that led to the filing of criminal charges. A news conference with the district attorney and Ventura County Sheriff Jim Fryhoff is scheduled for Friday morning.

Larger Context of Tensions:

The incident in Thousand Oaks comes amid heightened tensions globally, particularly following an unprecedented assault by Hamas on Israel a month earlier, resulting in a significant loss of lives and hostages.

The conflict has exacerbated tensions between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian groups in the United States.
