UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held discussions concerning the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict, expressing shared concerns over the loss of civilian lives.
The leaders emphasized the pressing need for an early resolution of both the security and humanitarian situation in the region, particularly after Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7.
Efforts to Alleviate Humanitarian Crisis and Protect Civilians:
During their meeting, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed highlighted the significance of intensifying efforts to address the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
He stressed the necessity of protecting the lives of civilians, ensuring the swift delivery of relief aid, and enabling humanitarian organizations to play their essential role in this regard.
International Response and Challenges in Gaza:
The conflict has taken a devastating toll on the Palestinian population, especially children, with over 3,700 Palestinian children losing their lives in the 25 days of fighting, as per the Health Ministry in Gaza.
More than half of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been displaced due to the bombardment, and important resources such as food, water, and fuel are running critically low, exacerbated by Israel’s siege. Hospitals in the region are overwhelmed, with warnings of imminent collapse.
Challenges in Delivering Aid to Gaza:
While Israel has permitted the entry of over 260 trucks carrying food and medicine into Gaza, aid workers contend that this assistance falls far short of the region’s urgent needs.
Israeli authorities have refrained from allowing fuel supplies into Gaza, citing concerns that Hamas might divert these resources for military purposes.
This restriction has further exacerbated the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
