Defending the Truth: A Passion Ignited by Conflict
George Eid’s journey as a journalist began in the heart of Beirut in 2005 when he published an article detailing the defects of the Lebanese baccalaureate exam systems in an effort in an effort to shed a light on the injustice targeting students. Back then he was himself student. In 2011, where he reported for MTV Lebanon amidst the chaos of civil unrest was a marking point. On what started as an ordinary day, George and his cameraman found themselves under fire from a group of “irregular civilians.” It was a harrowing experience, one that solidified his commitment to the field of journalism and the pursuit of truth. “I knew then that I hadn’t chosen a job, but a lifelong passion of defending the truth at all costs,” George reflects.
Covering significant events such as the Syrian War and the devastating Beirut port explosion in 2020 has only deepened his respect for those journalists who risk their lives for their work. Growing up in a country marked by violence and strife, George’s early years were filled with the sounds of conflict rather than childhood songs. This turbulent background shaped his dreams; initially aspiring to be a lawyer to seek justice, he quickly pivoted to journalism after witnessing the inefficacies of the judicial system in Lebanon.
Capturing Culture: A Dedication to Diversity
Among his many achievements, George cherishes two films he produced about the dwindling Greek community in Lebanon: “Kalimera men Beirut” (2017) and “Zeibekiko in Beirut” (2020). These films are not just artistic endeavors; they are personal legacies that encapsulate the heritage of his maternal family, who were Greek refugees. The films, awarded multiple international accolades, serve as a preservation of cultural history at a time when many elements of Lebanon’s multicultural identity face erasure.

“Through these films, I’ve managed to save parts of a culture that are disappearing,” George explains. His commitment to protecting diversity and cultural heritage aligns with the UAE’s mission in promoting inclusivity and respect for various cultures.
Leadership in News: A Journey of Resilience
Recently appointed as the Head of News at Al Mashhad TV in Dubai, George’s career spans over 20 years, during which he has climbed the ranks from entry-level positions to management. His extensive experience across various media formats—TV, radio, print, and online journalism—across four countries and five languages equips him with a unique understanding of the industry.
“Having worked on air and off air in various roles helps me empathize with reporters in the field and producers in the gallery, especially during crises,” he notes. His tenure as Head of Operations at MTV Lebanon during tumultuous times, including the COVID-19 pandemic and Lebanon’s economic collapse, has equipped him with invaluable crisis management skills.
A Philosophy of Growth: Lessons from Life and War
George believes that personal growth stems from challenging experiences. “Survival mode is about trying until you succeed,” he states, emphasizing resilience as a key lesson from his upbringing in a war-torn country. This mentality shaped his outlook, particularly when he had to leave Lebanon and rebuild his career in the UAE in 2020. Though it required starting anew, he embraced the opportunity for growth.
He stresses the importance of competition, not against others but against oneself. “Discipline is key to success. Be humble and loyal to your tasks,” he advises aspiring journalists. George’s philosophy encompasses not just professional integrity but also a commitment to leaving every place and person better than he found them.
